Swiss Pilots Threaten To Go On Strike

That’s enough for Swiss pilots.

Bang in Kloten ZH: In a dispute over a new collective employment contract (GAV), Swiss pilots decline a better offer from their employer. The Swiss wanted to provide more than 60 million francs. But the pilots consider this proposal “inadequate”. No CLA, no peace obligation: Now pilots are threatening to go on strike.

As a reminder: Since April 1, 2022, pilots from Lufthansa’s subsidiary Swiss have been flying without a valid collective employment contract. In previous talks between the pilots’ union Aeropers and the Swiss, no agreement has been reached.

According to the Swiss, representatives of 1286 pilots have demanded more than 200 million francs. According to the airline, this would increase the cost of cockpit personnel by more than CHF 1.2 billion over the four-year contract period.

As noted in a release, the pilot union is now starting to prepare for “Plan B”. Now the process of voting begins when a task is stalled.

Swiss ready for further talks

Thomas Steffen (47), a member of the Aeropers board: “With its dealings, Swiss’s management leaves us no choice but to prepare further options. We do so by initiating the voting process for the walkout.”

If the Swiss do not improve again, strike measures are possible from 17 October. Spicy: This is exactly the time many Swiss fly in or return for the autumn holidays.

“Swiss pilots are in a big dilemma,” says Aeropers managing director Henning M. Hoffmann (50). They don’t want to harm their company and customers.”

The Swiss regret the failure of the talks. But he is available for further talks.
