Unusual raids in Naples
Swiss watch stolen – and brought back!
An unusual scene happened on the roof of a restaurant in Naples: a Swiss tourist’s watch was stolen at gunpoint. However, the criminal came back and returned the watch after realizing that it was not worth much.
Two Swiss tourists were sitting comfortably at the Café Monide in the historic center of Naples, Piazza Trieste e Trento, when a man suddenly appeared behind them. Before fleeing, he pointed a gun to the necks of two men and stole a tourist’s watch.
He returned after a while to return the object of desire to his master. “The thief thought it was Richard Mille that might have cost hundreds of thousands of euros. In fact, it wasn’t very valuable, so he returned it,” the restaurant’s operators said.
He not only contacted the police, but also sent the video to Francesco Emilio Borelli. The local Greens politician shared the clip on Facebook to condemn the insecurity in Naples. «It happens in the historical center! Armed thieves conduct raids just a few meters away from the police station. If the tourist hadn’t played along, it could have ended in a drama,” Greene criticized the politician.
“There will be deaths!”
In the capital of Campania, crime has long been rampant and is not limited to the suburbs or so-called “problem areas”. Borelli says: «As you can see, tourists seem to be the favorite victims of criminals. The event has gotten so out of control. There will be deaths soon!”
Regional council deputy and former journalists point out that although the region is in theory under video surveillance, in reality this is rarely the case. However, the cafe’s photos immortalized the theft. ‘You returned the watch to avoid conviction for such a low price. This proves that they are very well organized and familiar with the law,” concluded Borelli.
The release of the video prompted a flood of comments from Neapolitans, who were furious with the video. “You can tell by the slow pace of their actions how untouchable they feel. Maybe they even know where the patrol vehicles are,” criticized one user. “What a shame! Especially now that we are slowly bringing in tourists again, such videos will prevent them from coming to Naples », there is another fear. Some call for raising awareness among tourists, while others say it is already too late: “The police in Naples have lost control”. (snd/chs)
