Now, as he trades one cut for another, the singer pairs a movie hosted only by the biggest K-pop group in the world.
“Cruel Summer” returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100 this week. The smash returned to the summit for a third non-consecutive frame at the top of the ranking of the most consumed songs in the US. -debuted in first place last week as his new album 1989 (Taylor’s Version) opened at the top of the Billboard 200.
Swift is now only the second artist in history to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, replace themselves with another song, and then do it all over again—all without anyone stepping in and reigning amid those rapids. He has now replaced himself on top of the tally twice in a row, with one of his singles interrupting another successful run.
The first artist to manage this specific feat was BTS. The South Korean pop band achieved an amazing show in 2021. They first sat at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Butter,” which ruled for seven weeks. The septet then replaced that winner with another, as “Permission to Dance” debuted at the top of the chart. Then, after just one frame in charge, that cut went down, allowing “Butter” to return to its former glory.
“Cruel Summer” became Swift’s milestone tenth No. 1 on the Hot 100 a month ago. It rose to the top position more than four years after it was first released on his album Loving.
