New Delhi: India suffered a major setback on Saturday (27 February) as Jasprit Bumrah requested to keep the BCCI out of the squad before the fourth Test, citing personal reasons. The BCCI said that the fast bowler will no longer be available for selection for the fourth Test. With this, no player will be included in the final Test in his place.
Rest has already been granted for the upcoming five-match T20 series starting March 12. Bumrah is unlikely to return and there is hardly any return in his three ODIs. As reported by Cricbuzz, the 27-year-old fast bowler may be unavailable for the remainder of England’s tour of India and return to the cricket ground during the IPL 2021 edition.
If the report comes true, the unavailability of Bumrah could certainly give other young pacers in the country a chance to showcase their skills against the current one-day World Champion England.
Bumrah could not do much in the ongoing England Test. He took 4 wickets for 110 runs in the first test, while he was rested in the second Test. During the third Test, he returned to the spinning track without taking a wicket, which India won within two days.
Meanwhile, the BCCI also confirmed that spinner Varun Chakraborty had failed the yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. The off-spinners failed to score 17.1 points in the fitness test after having already missed Australia in the T20s due to injury.
