October 1 (WNN) — The Tennessee Titans will be without star wide receivers Julio Jones and AJ Brown for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, the team announced Friday.
Both Jones and Brown suffered hamstring injuries during the Titans’ 25-16 win over division rivals Indianapolis Colts last week. Brown played just eight snaps before being kicked out of the matchup, while Jones was out late in the third quarter.
None of the receivers practiced this week.
Second-year wideout Nick Westbrook-Ikhine could have gotten more snaps without Brown and Jones in the lineup. Free-agent takeover Josh Reynolds was dormant last week, but he hopes to get a chance against the Jets.
Titans head coach Mike Wrabel also ruled out linebacker Bud Dupree’s exit this week due to a knee injury. The veteran defender was active against the Colts last week, but didn’t play a snap.
Dupree sustained a torn ACL in December while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He attempted to play on an injured knee in the Titans’ first two games, but had problems with his recovery process. He failed to practice this week.
“Bud will be out, so I think it tells you a lot,” Wrabel told reporters on whether Dupree had suffered a setback. “He won’t be available for sports. Like a lot of injuries, there are things you work with. … All I know is that Bud comes to work every morning to learn and prepare himself.” Tries to play.”
The Titans’ 53-man roster currently has only three outside linebackers – Ola Adenii, Sharif Finch and Harold Landry III. The team added Finch to the practice squad earlier this week and on Friday promoted him to the active roster.
Wrabel also dismissed punter Brett Kern (groin), cornerback Caleb Farley (shoulder) and defensive lineman Larrell Murchison (elbow) for Sunday’s matchup against the Jets.
