Former tennis star Chris Evert says he was diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer.

Evert, 67, revealed the illness in a story posted on ESPN.com on Friday; He is an on-air announcer for ESPN.

She was diagnosed with cancer last month and started chemotherapy treatment this week.

“I’ve lived a very fascinating life. Now I have a few challenges ahead of me,” Evert said. “But I take comfort in knowing that chemotherapy is there to make sure the cancer doesn’t come back.”

Evert won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings, and was inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 1995.

Her sister, Jean Evert Dubin, died of ovarian cancer in February 2020 at the age of 62.

“Be your own advocate. Know your family history. Have a full awareness of your body, follow your gut and be aware of the changes,” Evert said in the ESPN story. “Don’t try to be a warrior and think it will pass.”
