Teruel has problems with the supply of worrying and medicines to deal with diabetes

Orfidal (lorazepam), one of the best-selling anti-anxiety drugs, and Ozempic, a drug to treat type 2 diabetes in adults, are some of the drugs that Teruel province has had the most supply problems in recent months. The pharmacists of the province try to find solutions so that patients can get the facility of their treatment. Some pharmacies have joined the national Luda Partners network, which facilitates communication between them to locate drugs and other pharmacy products with supply issues.

It is an innovative tool, installed in pharmacies that wish to be part of the project, and which allows pharmacists to search for the requested product (either by trade name or national drug code). Through this software, you can find out that your patient has the medicine they need so that they can go and buy it.

The Miguel Gil pharmacy in the capital of Teruel is one of fifty Aragonese establishments where this technology is already available.

“There is an acute shortage of medicines and we put ourselves in the position of a patient who needs their treatment. We want people to have no shortage of medicine, no matter who sells it to them”, highlighted Miguel Gil.

Teruel pharmacists explained that when there is a problem with a drug, they first look at their distributors’ warehouses, but when the problem is widespread, this tool allows them to trace the product to a pharmacy that has Have stock.

“With this system, the patient avoids going from pharmacy to pharmacy without consequences. We tell them where the medicine is and we give them information about its location and possible reservations”, explained the pharmacist from Teruel.

With the Luda Partners tool, 95% of the presentations searched are found. Along with Orfidal and Ozempic, the drugs with the biggest supply problems in Teruel are amoxicillin suspension and amoxicillin with clavulanic acid (antibiotics), Creon, which is used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency: Pylera – for adult patients infected with Helicobacter pylori who have or have had ulcers and Rivotril – this product contains the active substance clonazepam, a benzodiazepine that has anticonvulsant properties and is used for most forms of epilepsy in infants and children .

Gil explained that supply problems are increasing due to inflation and because Europe pays better for them than Spain, in the sense that the pharmacist assures that there is no problem for basic things, but for something with high added value. There are medicines because they are new preparations that have more advantages and where it is sometimes more difficult to find the product.

More than 2,400 pharmacies are members of the Luda Partners digital network throughout Spain, with a presence in 50 Spanish provinces and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Between the months of September and November, a total of 6,932 patients throughout Spain were able to find their medicines thanks to this network and together with the solidarity campaign Farmacias Solidarias Luda, 6,932 euros were donated in favor of the Fundación Aladina, which supports the sick. Have children with cancer and their families.
