The bands of Hurricane Lee caused heavy rain in Puerto Rico

The outer bands of Hurricane Lee’s strength are helping the development of heavy downpours in the interior and northeast of Puerto Rico on Monday afternoon.

Today, Major Hurricane Lee continues to move slowly toward the northwest at a safe distance from our coast, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Lee, a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale (out of a maximum of 5), has maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour (195 km/h) and is located 365 miles (590 km) north of the islands. . Sotavento.

The storm is moving northwest at 8 miles per hour (13 km/h) and is expected to pass west of Bermuda in the coming days, where authorities are monitoring the passage of the storm, which will intensify. as it progresses.

The NHC said that “dangerous breaking waves and life-threatening ocean currents affected the northern Leeward Islands, British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahamas and Bermuda.”

Currently there is a warning for small boat operators, there is a warning for ocean currents and a warning for strong rip currents.
