The best high school soccer playoff games this week

Friday playoff semi-finals

Santa Ana Mater Dei (9-0) to Corona Centennial (11-0), 19:00

Centennial is the last South section team to win a Division 1 championship apart from Mater Dei and St. John Bosco since 2015. The huskies have a chance to destroy the Monarchs if they can find a way to effectively control the ball to fine-tune the passing game. They have enough athleticism to challenge quarterback Elijah Brown. Mater Dei protection is a serious problem and will be a hallmark. Choice: Mater Dei.

Anaheim Servite (9-2) at Bellflower St. John Bosco (11-1), 7:30 pm

This is the fourth year in Troy Thomas’ rebuilding plan, and the Servite still has the best team. The Brothers will need their great players to perform like never before. Saint John Bosco showed last week that they can control the ball when they are allowed, but the defense has lost many points to Los Alamitos. Choice: Serve.

Lake Balboa Birmingham (6-5) to Wilmington Banning (8-1) 7pm

Banning wants to control the ball. Birmingham has improved and dominated the City Section competition in the past month after midfielder Delamonte Barnes. A prohibition is a serious, physical and harsh prohibition. Birmingham will try to pass the ball to their versatile excellent two-way Arlis Bordingham. Choice: Birmingham.

Palisades (11: 0) to San Pedro (9: 1), 19:00

The Dolphins have passed the test with running backing Daniel Ano (1,367 yards), strong offensive lines and a talented group of receivers. San Pedro has a serious weapon to go through. These are the numbers to be successful. Choice: St. Peter.
