The Blue Jays stop the Yankees with their 5th Grand Slam by Gurrill Jr.

TORONTO ( Associated Press) – Lourdes Gurrill Jr. hit his fifth career Grand Slam, Teoskar Hernandez put Toronto ahead with a three-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays broke the Yankees’ nine-game winning streak. Sunday after beating New York 10-9.

Josh Donaldson, Anthony Rizzo, Gleber Torres, Kyle Higashioka and Marvin Gonzalez each built home for the Yankees, who took an 8-3 lead in the sixth. New York lost for the second time in 18 matches.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. scored 17 home runs and George Springer also scored for the Blue Jays.

Toronto hit all of their runs in home runs and became the first Yankees opponent to score for double-digit runs on the season. New York leads the major leagues with a 49-17 record.

Yankees relievers Miguel Castro and Vandy Peralta (1-1) failed to save a five-run lead.

Gurriel went on to lead 8-7 with 44,395 fans in the sixth with his two-out Grand Slam.

Hernandez got the fans on their feet again with his third home run in the seventh, making it 10-8. Yimi Garcia (1-3) scored three runs in 1 1/3 innings to win.

For the Yankees, Venezuela’s Torres scored 5-3 with three RBIs and Gonzalez scored 4-2 and scored a run.

For the Blue Jays, Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr scored 2 runs and 3-2 with 2 RBI, Hernandez 4-1 with 2 runs and 3 RBI, Raimel Tapia 4-1, Santiago Espinal 4-0; Cuban Guriel Jr. scored 4–1 and 4 RBI and Mexican Alejandro Kirk scored 2–0.
