Maintaining the navigability of the river is a fundamental factor in defining the typology of the bridge, as well as establishing its final elevation layout. The design of the bridge allows the existence of a navigation channel centered on the Paraguay River, 195 meters wide and 29 meters long, even for the conditions of the highest flooding of the river.
Preliminary work began with topographic surveying, opening of roads and training of personnel. Afterwards, drilling began for the first of the 302 piles that served as the basis of this important work.
In the area of the viaducts, after completing the installation of these piles, they began the construction of the caps, which support the piers and the transverse beams. Then followed the installation of the longitudinal beams that are part of the access viaduct, it is prefabricated in the plant located in the city of Capiatá (department of Central), which belongs to the Paraguayan firm Pretec, subcontractor of the Pybra consortium.
The Bioceánica Bridge, which represents a milestone in the road infrastructure for the country, has an extension of approximately 1,294 meters, divided into three sections: both will contain access roads on both banks of Paraguay River, and one corresponds to the cable. -remaining part. , 632 meters with a middle height of 350 m.
The work is carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) with financing from Itaipú Binational.
