Dubai: India is one of the most successful teams in the world in under-19 cricket. Along with having won the most World Cups, the Indian team also has the most Under-19 Asia Cup titles. But with Azaan Owais’ unbeaten century, Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India by eight wickets in the Under-19 Asia Cup. Despite Sachin Dhaas’ innings of 58 runs off 42 balls with three sixes in the final overs, India could only score 259 runs for nine wickets in 50 overs.
Captain Uday Sharan (60 runs off 98 balls) and opener Adarsh Singh (62 runs, 81 balls) made a partnership of 93 runs off 20 overs but failed to increase the run rate. Sarfaraz Khan’s younger brother Musheer (02) failed to repeat the performance of the first match. In reply, Pakistan achieved the target by scoring 263 runs for two wickets in 47 overs with the help of left-handed batsman Azaan’s unbeaten century.
Ajan scored an unbeaten 105 runs off 130 balls with 10 fours. Azaan added 110 runs for the second wicket with opener Shaizab Khan (63 runs off 88 balls) and 125 runs for the third wicket with Saad Baig (68 runs off 51 balls, eight fours, one for six) in just 19.1 overs. Victory is assured. Captain Uday used seven bowlers but only off-spinner Murugan Abhishek could take two wickets.
Musheer also failed in bowling and gave away 32 runs in four overs. India play their last group league match against Nepal on Tuesday and need to win it to qualify for the semi-finals. Pakistan has registered two wins in two matches and needs to avoid a major defeat to enter the semi-finals. It will not be difficult for India to register a win as Nepal’s team is not very strong and has lost both of its matches.
