Ola recently released teaser videos of its upcoming 3 premium electric vehicles during the ‘Ola Customer Day’ celebrations. There will be a hatchback, a large coupe-style sedan and a coupe-style SUV. Like the Ola scooter, the company’s upcoming vehicles will feature futuristic designs. The first car in the teaser features headlights with a wraparound effect. The rear looks like a stubby boot with full-length tail-lights. The second car gets a wraparound effect for the front lights, but twin-units for the headlamps and stylized front bumpers. The third car gets a single bar for the front lights and a different design for the tail-lamps

Ola Electric may also bring a new electric scooter on August 15. The company has teased a new electric scooter on its social media platform. Ola has not given any information about the new electric scooter. In the teaser, Ola says that this new electric scooter will be the ‘greenest EV’ ever made by the company. The new electric scooter will be cheaper than the S1 Pro. This electric scooter may come with a less powerful electric motor and smaller battery pack. Apart from this, Ola may remove some features to keep the price of this scooter low.

Ola lags behind in demand for e-scooters

Talking about the top-5 electric two-wheelers of July 2022, this time the old player in this segment Hero Electric is back. Hero sold 8786 electric scooters last month. It has grown by 108.05% annually. In July 2021, the company sold 4223 electric scooters. That means he has sold 4563 more e-scooters this month. Similarly, Okinawa sold 8093 electric scooters with an annual growth of 213.68%. Ampere sold 6312 e-scooters with an annual growth of 860.73%. TVS sold 4244 e-scooters with a growth of 554.94% and stood at number four. Ola Electric was number five in the list. It sold 3852 e-scooters in July.

Ola is also preparing its batteries

>> Ola Electric has signed an agreement under the Centre’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to manufacture cells for electric vehicles in India. SoftBank-backed Ola said it is the only Indian electric mobility company selected by the Indian government under its Rs 80,000 crore SAIL PLI scheme. Ola Electric received a maximum of 20 gigawatt hours (GWH) for its bid in March.

>> The company recently announced an investment of $500 million (around Rs 4,000 crore) to set up a battery innovation center in Bengaluru. The Battery R&C will have more than 165 unique and state-of-the-art lab tools for design, testing and development equipment for batteries and cells. The battery will be manufactured indigenously by Ola to make it an affordable electric car.

500 engineers will be employed

Ola Electric is investing around $500 million to set up its Battery Innovation Center (BIC) in Bengaluru. It is expected to launch in August and will focus on core cell technology development and battery innovation outside India for the world. The Battery Innovation Center will use advanced laboratories and high-tech equipment for batteries to develop future cell technologies. The company is recruiting top talent from around the world for research and development in cell technology. For this, the company will hire 500 engineers.
