Thus, the mayor of Eibar, Jón Airaola, recalled that “guaranteeing the well-being of this group is one of the most important commitments and concerns we have”.
And in this sense, “given the high number of older people in Eibar, it is necessary to continue this type of initiative that allows not only to promote policies for this segment of the population, but also to ensure that older people Part of decision-making is making decisions that affect them. According to the said document, the Senior Citizens Participation Board has been constituted as a non-binding advisory and consultative instrument of the municipal administration for the exercise of regional policies for the elderly at the local level. In addition, the Board shall ensure conditions that enable the promotion, development and participation of this group in local life.
Furthermore, its main task will be to report on municipal proposals that affect the area of the elderly, promote the preparation of plans and define lines of action to the local administration, as well as set budgetary priorities for this collective. guide in.
On the other hand, the suggestions and initiatives proposed by the people or groups participating in the table will be aggregated, promoting cooperation and collaboration between associations carrying out activities to promote the elderly and reciprocity between the different participating tables. will be promoted. With regard to the composition of the board, as stated in the new regulations, it will be composed of a representative from the mayor’s office, the municipal technician responsible for the commission for the elderly, and a representative from each of the associations of older people. In any case, all positions and members of the Board shall be renewed at the beginning of each municipal term.

The creation of this board derives from proposals collected within the Municipal Commission for Older People, an area that has been created in this mandate and which aims to meet the needs of this group which accounts for about 25% of the Eibar population .
