The Colombian National Team is a united group that plays well and that is why Chile will not have an easy time

The day has come, the Colombian National Team will face Chile, this Tuesday, for date 2 of the South American Qualifiers, as a guest, and many are expected for the result that our ‘tricolor’ will achieve.

For this reason, at Gol Caracol we spoke to the former forward Eudalio Arriaga, who had a memorable season in our national team, as he was the protagonist and champion of the 2001 Copa América, in addition to participating in the 2003 Confederations Cup .

Speaking to this portal, Arriaga mentioned that he sees victory against Chile as possible, because it is a team that is in the midst of a generational change, and that Colombia has shown many things in the process. by Néstor Lorenzo.

Furthermore, Eudalio remembered the goal he scored against the Australs wearing the ‘tricolor’ shirt, in the 2001 Copa América.

Do you like Colombia’s start to the South American Qualifiers?
“It was a tough game. A new era begins, a new era with a new coaching staff. And well, it is important to start winning to give confidence to the players, to the new group and start a Qualifying which is very difficult. And there are many possibilities in the World Cup but it is still difficult.

What do you like most about the team against Venezuela?
“Well, in the first game there was a good team game. The players share well. It’s not easy but through tradition, through the trajectory of what the Colombian National Team has come from, it’s important to add and make a difference. “Colombia sometimes did not pass in this game and it showed on the field of play.”

Which player surprised you?
“Jhon Arias showed what he does at his club and it’s important. He does what Fluminense does, which is to play well, pass the ball well, assist the forwards well and make excellent tactical performance on the defensive side. Luis Díaz is good because he’s a different player and we all know his ability. And I really like Jhon Lucumí, because that was the chance the kid was waiting for. And I think he is the player with the most stability in defense and it is important and he confirmed it by being a starter.

How do you see Rafael Santos Borré as a starter?
“It’s important because I haven’t played yet, I’m not in the rhythm. He has that vocation that helps the team a lot, but as a result of that I think he missed the chance to score one or two more goals because in the same quality that he has in helping the team on defense. But I think sometimes you spend a lot in that position and you need to have more energy to go there. There are three or four there hanging where nine. And that’s what he can’t beat because he’s a player who plays very well with the balls and without the balls but he needs to be at the right moment because because of the comfort the coach has for him, he’ll be the number nine. choice and those opportunities must be taken advantage of.”

What do you think of the game against Chile?
“We know that all the qualifying matches are difficult and more so for the visitors. They were beaten because Uruguay played better than them. And Chile had a chance that we had and they are now in process that has to change themselves and that costs them. For me, personally, it is not easy because Colombia is a group that is a very good family at the moment. It is a united group that played well. I am very optimistic, not because I am Colombian, but I am very confident that it will not be easy for Chile. If Colombia enters with that condition, for me, it will be a plus point to add three points.

Any change in the starter for this match compared to the one in Venezuela?
“As I said, the team that wins will not change. You have to give the beginners credit unless someone is hurt. Yes, as everyone said, Venezuela had a lot of options, but luckily they didn’t score a goal against us and we scored. The team that won for me will not change and if the coach gives confidence to the winners, we must continue to support. I think that Jorge Carrascal came in very well and if they give him a change, it is to bring the player who took his place and the coach should do the same.

You scored a goal against Chile, in the Copa América that we won in 2001, what do you remember about that score against the Australs?
“Yes, it is something that is in the memory of the Colombian people. A goal that is well remembered for what was experienced. And well, it is something beautiful for me and that will always be remembered by all the from Colombia. For taking off my shirt or celebrating, they gave me another yellow card and I can’t play against Peru in the next match.”
