Thanks to an alliance between the Museological Directorate (DM) and the Cine Club of the Universidad Austral de Chile, this September 11 at 3:30 pm. The national premiere of the documentary “Chileans of the North”, by Chirs Paul, will take place. The film tells the stories of Chileans who arrived in the United Kingdom after the military coup in 1973. Some members of the community tell what happened on the day of the coup d’état, the repression that followed the installation of the military dictatorship, how a new life began in England and how activism and solidarity helped strengthen a community in exile. “It’s a story that spans two continents and 50 years,” said its director.
The event is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état in Chile and is in collaboration with the School of History and Social Sciences. In addition to the national premiere and the goal of saving and preserving the memory of one of the communities whose experiences are not well known, such as exile, once the screening is over, there will be a discussion that will be managed by the coordinator of the Education Area. Legacy of the Museological Directorate, Carolina Maturana, and where Felipe Guerra, UACh lawyer, Director of the INDH Los Ríos Region, will participate as panelists; Beatriz Brinkmann, academic and member of the Group of Former Political Prisoners and Family Members of Valdivia; and Dr. Robinson Silva, professor at the Institute of History and Social Sciences.
