The Dodgers beat the Braves 4-1 with a Turner homer

ATLANTA ( Associated Press) — Freddie Freeman was looking forward to an emotional moment upon his return to Atlanta.

But he was unprepared for an avalanche of sensations, which included many tears, before the duel, which unfolds in his old home, now in Los Angeles uniform.

So he even had to leave the pregame press conference for a moment to regain his balance. He shed tears for the rest of the conversation, during which he talked about his love for the Braves.

Then, he was asked how he would maintain his composure during the three-match series.

“I don’t even know how I’m going to make it over the weekend,” he replied.

There were more emotions on Freeman’s side, as well as a video tribute, after receiving his 2021 World Series championship ring from Braves manager Brian Snitker at a pregame ceremony.

In the end, he not only regained himself, but helped his team.

Tree Turner had three hits, including a home run, Freeman hit base three times and the Dodgers beat the Braves 4-1 on Friday.

Julio Urias (5-6) handed the Braves his fourth defeat in June, making three hits and one run on nine strikes in six innings.

The Braves are four games behind the New York Mets, who are first in the NL East. Atlanta kept its record at 18-4 this month.

The Dodgers absorbed bad news from their pitching staff before and during the game. Andrew Heaney, a left-hander, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with swelling of the left shoulder. Right-hander Daniel Hudson left the game in eighth place due to a left knee injury.

Matt Olsson took the lead in ninth place with his second hit, Single. Dodgers close Craig Kimbrel rallied with three quick outs for a 13-for-14 save.

Freeman starred for the NL West leaders in the long-awaited return to Atlanta.

Slugger got only one hit in the sixth innings. He received two walks and scored twice.

Freeman, the 2020 NL MVP, helped the Braves win the World Series last year. He was also shaken when he received a standing ovation from 42,105 spectators gathered in Atlanta.

For the Braves, Rolando Acua of Venezuela 3-2 with a run, Orlando Arcia 3-0 and William Contreras 4-0; and Dominican Marcel Ozuna 4-0.
