The Dominican Republic blanked Israel 10-0 in seven innings

The Dominican triumph allowed Venezuela (3-0) to secure first place in Group D.

Julio Rodríguez, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year, and Eloy Jiménez each had two hits for the Dominican.

The Dominican-Puerto Rico clash on Wednesday night at LoanDepot Stadium in Miami will find the eternal Caribbean rivals with identical 2-1 records. The winner will stay in the race and the loser will go home.

“It will be a very important game for us and we will be ready,” Puerto Rico manager Yadier Molina said.

The Dominicans finished with 15 hits against Israel. The last was a two-run double by Jean Segura to end the game in the seventh inning due to tournament mercy rules.

Jiménez quickly gave the Dominicans a run with a single in the first inning.

Machado’s single and Ketel Marte’s RBI double in the third inning put them up 3-0. Machado hit a slide off reliever Evan Kravetz and drove the ball 437 feet to the plate in left field for his second home run of the tournament.

“The guys came out to hit hard, but the most important thing is that we don’t have to go to our relievers,” said Rodney Linares, manager of the Dominicans. “We contacted them, and we answered all our questions with everyone. The young men made the first attack.

The Dominicans made the difference in the sixth inning. Rodríguez hit a two-run double and Machado followed with a two-run single.

One night after going without a runner in an eight-inning loss against Puerto Rico, Israel got its only runner on in the third when Spencer Horwitz was hit to lead off the inning by Roansy Contreras.
