The DR Army will receive 20 armored vehicles

Santo Domingo.- The Army of the Dominican Republic received this Thursday 20 armored vehicles of the URO brand, model VAMTAC ST5 (Tactical High Mobility Vehicles), announced in December last year, in order to strengthen the powers of this institution.

The delivery of the vehicles, carried out by President Luis Abinader, represents an increase in the operational capabilities of the military body and provides a tool to better address challenges in terrain with difficult access conditions, such as those prevailing in the border area, and the mobility of its members during operations

These URO VAMTAC are armored vehicles manufactured in Spain in the “Command and Control” and “Troop Transport” variants, with a cabin for transporting 5 to 9 crew members, armor against gunfire and mine explosions and a speed of up to 135 km/h. h and an autonomy of more than 600 kilometers.

They feature high-tech vehicle telemetry that allows mobile satellite connectivity during patrol with real-time high-resolution cameras, simultaneous communications in emergencies, ultra-fast mobile Internet access for troops in remote areas, and control over drivers and the mechanical condition of each individual (Computer-assisted live engine diagnostics), speed control and preventative maintenance via the new fleet monitoring center.

The activity took place at the “Mayor General Tommy R. Fernández Alarcón, ERD” ceremonial square, located on the esplanade of the “16 de Agosto” military camp, where the IRA troops were located. The ERD infantry brigade. held a military parade in honor of the President, who presented the keys to the vehicles to the Army Commander, Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre.

Some members of the Wehrmacht Military High Command took part in the event. and the National Police as well as special guests.
