The Colombian Geological Service, SGC, reported in the early hours of this Tuesday, September 12, an earthquake of magnitude 2.5, whose epicenter is the municipality of Maceo, located right in Magdalena Medio, in the department of Antioquia.
The SGC detailed that the seismic event had a shallow depth (less than 30 km) and was located 4 km from Caracolí, another town in the same subregion of Antioquia.

The new report of the seismic movement happened at 4:02 am this Tuesday, so it woke up the residents of this area of Antioquia. Also, on the other hand, the earthquake has a latitude of 6.44 and a longitude of 74.76.
And last month was marked by frequent telluric movements that caused damage, fear, chaos and paralysis on the road due to its magnitude. Even in Bogotá, a young woman died after falling from a window during the evacuation of several buildings due to the earthquake.
In fact, after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake, which shook the Eastern Plains and most of the Andean region of the country on August 17, and the many aftershocks that followed, some warned of the proximity of “a great earthquake in Colombia”.
However, the Colombian Geological Service confirmed that it is impossible to predict the occurrence of an earthquake and also warned that in the country there are some areas that are more prone to earthquakes. This is because they are located in active fault zones.

“They are mainly located in the Andean and Caribbean regions, the Pacific and the Llanero Border. These areas easily accumulate internal forces that change and break the rock, and in this way the accumulations are released force,” detailed the SGC.
