Former UW Senior Assistant Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde proposed the nomination on April 1, five days before Alvarez’s resignation was confirmed.
Van De Velde said in an interview that he appointed Colgate Athletic Director Nicky Webber Moore to the UW position, but she decided not to apply. He hired her when he was director of development in Missouri.
“In the conversation with Nicky, she kind of read the tea leaves, that Wisconsin kind of knew what they wanted to do early on, and so she didn’t want to get involved,” Van De Velde said.
According to subsequent reports sent by him by Adam Kindshi, a special assistant in the chancellor’s office who worked on a search in AD, UW received at least 13 candidates to consider for the position. The names of the recipients are shaded in the letters.
But Blank, in one post, doesn’t seem to want unsolicited names.
“We don’t need nominations,” she wrote in a message to Kindshi following an email to Van De Velde. “If we get them, we will let people know and send them a link. But we do not want to seek the nomination of third parties. “
Jack Adle wrote to Blank on April 4 to nominate former UW Sports Department CFO Mario Morris, now Executive Deputy Sports Director of Notre Dame.
Adle, a former UW Athletic Councilor and former President of Elkay Manufacturing, expressed the opinion that “There is no one in the current state who has the requisite skills to serve as Director of Athletics. This will require bringing in someone from the outside. … “
