The European Commission has just adopted a new proposal for common rules that promote product repair, which will save consumers and contribute to the objectives of the European Green Deal, among other things. The European body is recognized in the proposal collected by Cetraa and Conepa in the factory companies, highlighting the text, which will also be confirmed by the Parliament and the European Council, to serve anyone for any good, not specifically, to repair. car
Conepa and Cetraa have already participated in a European consultation in June 2022 on “the consumption of sustainable goods and how to promote their repair, transformation and reuse”. “We hope that in this regard our contributions to the European Union have contributed to a worthy satisfaction in the context of favoring the circular economy”, to exist from the Spanish associations.
Repair vs. Replacement
Over the past few decades, the latter has often become a priority in repair when products begin to fail and insufficient incentives have been offered to repair goods after the legal warranty has expired. According to the European Commission, the proposal will make it easier and more efficient for consumers to repair products rather than repair them. In addition, increased demand will translate into a boost for the repair sector, while encouraging manufacturers and retailers to develop more sustainable business models.
The proposed proposal will ensure that more products are repaired under the legal warranty and that consumers will have easier and cheaper options for repairing repairable technical items when the legal warranty has expired or when the product no longer works due to wear and tear.
New measurements
To promote and facilitate repair and reuse, the proposal introduces a new “right to repair” for consumers, both within and outside the legal warranty. Under warranty, sellers will have to repair unless it is more expensive than later.
In addition to the legal guarantee, consumers will enjoy a new set of rights and tools for an easy and convenient “repair” option;
