NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Titans are back from much-needed charity week and have closed their homes for the first time since 2000.
On Sunday, the Titans defeated AFC’s southern rival Jacksonville 20-0, thanks to a defense that caught Jaguars defender Trevor Lawrence four times.
It was the face of the two games that preceded the farewell, when the Titans rolled the ball nine times, only once.
The Tennessee defense had three sacks along with four tackles, including one sack in the Jaguars ’first game. The Titans also kept the Jaguars running for up to 8 yards, which is the product of a focus on better combat.
“We played this game better as an exhibitor. It’s good to see that what you’ve highlighted and focused on has been translated into the game. That first game was a lighting product that helped the rush, ”Titans coach Mike Wrabel said Monday.
The Titans (9-4) won their sixth consecutive season with a win on Sunday, a season behind the franchise record, with the Houston Oilers winning seven in a row in 1987-93.
The Titans are now turning their attention to two games in five days against enemies in hopes of boosting their playoff hopes. Tennessee travels to Pittsburgh on Sunday; Despite finishing last in the Northern AFC, the Steelers still have a playoff period with four games left.
The Titans will then return home to face the San Francisco 49ers, who have won four of their last five games, to return to the NFC playoffs at 7-6.
Mudofaa fronti. The Titans dominated the Jaguars and kept them at 192 yards total offense, and it started ahead. The line confirmed its will in the jaguars.
Tennessee scored four goals in the game for the first time since 2012, mostly due to pressure from the defensive front pushing Lawrence out of his pocket several times. All in all, it was an elite spectacle, an offensive run of attack and will probably need the Titans until they are healthy after the season.
WHAT NEEDS HELP
Transition protection. Starting with five sacks allowed in the game against Arizona, it was a problem throughout the season. The Titans against the Jaguars allowed Ryan Tannexill to fire four times, including twice when it was impossible to avoid the rush. It was the first time in a few weeks that all five players on the offensive line were healthy and starting. The group now needs to develop some integrity in defending the transition.
The 2018 first-round pick missed five games in a row due to an ankle injury suffered by Rashaan Evans, who will be a free agent at the end of the year. He came back on Sunday and played well in the run as well, losing in the first defensive series of the game and against an extension with one of four stops, thanks to a single decent pass.
“It simply came to our notice then. I felt he was excited to play. He did good things, he did a lot of good things, ”Vrabel said. “When we see him here today, it’s about some of the things we talked about, the little details. Always teach some things. He was physically involved and it was great to see him run and collide.
Randy Bullock. Bullock scored two of his three goals on Sunday, but the Miss, who had 47 yards in the first quarter, hit for the third week in a row. The Titans have substituted Sam Ficken, who won the training camp, with an injury, but his status remains uncertain about any possible return.
The Titans defended with an advantage despite having three starting players. Inside, defender David Long (hamstring) missed the fourth game. Corner defender Jacrabbit Jenkins (ankle) missed the game, although his replacement, Baster Screen, took one of the balls. Nose Solve Teair Tart (Ankle) was out of the game in the second series. TE Tommy Hudson was put on the injured bench to open the list before the game.
0 – Number of balls thrown by Ryan Tannexill on Sunday. Tannexill has conceded five goals in the previous two games, both of which were defeats. On Sunday, Tannexill defended the ball and scored 20 of 31 shots in 191 yards. He, too, was in a hurry to strike.
Get ready for a stretch run. The Titans will play two games in five days before receiving a mini-farewell that includes the Christmas holidays. They will travel to Pittsburgh before heading home against San Francisco in Thursday night’s game. With four games left, Tennessee needs a combination of the Titans ’victories and the Colts’ two defeats to win the Southern AFC’s second consecutive championship.
