The year 2023 proved to be a blockbuster for Hindi cinema. But the beginning of this year has been a bit dull compared to last year. January has passed, now the makers have hopes from February. There are many films coming this month. But there are two such films from which the makers as well as the audience have expectations.
Hindi cinema, which was once groaning due to Corona virus and lockdown, came alive again last year. The trend of strong earnings at the box office had started from the beginning of 2023. Pathan, Gadar 2, OMG 2, Jawan, Tiger 3, Danky, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, Dream Girl 2, Sam Bahadur, Fukrey 3, Satya Prem Ki Katha, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, 12th Fail and Films like Animal were liked a lot by the audience and they made huge money.
This year did not start like last year for Hindi cinema at the box office. Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor’s big budget film Fighter, which released on January 25, got a good start, but the film fell flat on Monday itself. However, due to good overseas earnings, the film did a business of more than Rs 250 crore in the first 9 days.
Pankaj Tripathi’s film Main Atal Hoon was released in January itself. This biopic of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna late Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not get the response as expected. People did not even know when the film came and went. Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s film Merry Christmas was praised a lot by the critics, yet people did not reach the ticket window. The film died before making 24 crores worldwide. That means the month of January was wasted at the box office.
The enthusiasm that the audience showed for Hindi films last year has been missing so far this year. Although only the first month of the year has passed. In such a situation, it is expected that theaters will be buzzing again in the coming days. The echo of applause and whistles will be heard once again.
Which films to expect in February?
Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Yami Gautam’s Article 370 are going to hit the theaters this month. The rise and fall of the box office in February depends on these two films only. That means, if the films of Shahid Kapoor and Yami Gautam work, then the month of February will prove to be good for Hindi cinema. And if this does not happen, problems will remain.
Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has been directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Shah. This film is being released on 9th February in Valentine’s week. It will be interesting to see how much love this film, coming in a love-filled environment, gets from the audience. Apart from Shahid and Kriti, veterans like Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia will also be seen in it.
If we talk about Yami’s film, this film is going to revolve around the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. In the film, Yami plays the role of field officer Juni Haksar. It is directed by Aditya Suhas Jamble. Apart from Yami, actors like Priyamani, Arun Govil, Kiran Karmakar and Raj Zutshi will be seen in it. The film is going to be released on 23 February.
