Peter Ttl won the months-long debate against team partner Max Biaggi. The Liqui-Moly team will compete as the Husqvarna factory team in Moto3 and Moto2 in 2023 – with new riders.
Following violent disputes between Peter Ttl and Max Biaggi, the German Liqui Moly team will form the official Husqvarna factory team at the Moto3 World Championship for next year and enter into a joint venture with team owner Peter Ttl. The big “H” will appear on the bike, and Liqui Moly will also appear as a sponsor in both classes.
Peter ttl also won the fight against Max Biaggi for two-time Moto3 season winner and title contender Ayumu Sasaki. In addition, Dutch Red Bull rookie Colin Weijer, who is 19 points behind second-placed Rueda in the Cup, will join the 2023 Husky Moto 3 squad. There are still four races left. Weezer is fifth in Aragon training.
The Liqui Moly Intact team will also appear in the Moto2 class as the Huqvarna Factory Team – but will continue to use Kalex machines. Lukas Tulovic and Darin Binder have been introduced as the new drivers.
Jürgen Lingg will continue to be Team Manager at Moto2 and MotoE, with ttl serving as Team Manager for Moto3.
Other brands also use similar concepts: Aki Ajo’s Red Bull KTM team uses KELEX bikes, as does Aspar Martinez’s GasGas team, as does the Yamaha MasterCamp team and the Mooney VR46 team (of sponsor Fantik). with).
Assen. noise started in
Already at the end of June at the Dutch TT in Essen it became clear that the Max Racing teammates had finally parted ways. Because five-time GP winners Peter ttl and Max Biaggi submitted separate applications for the Moto3 World Championship Team 2023 to the IRTA Team Association. Everyone claimed a place for two teams.
ttl and Biaggi came together in autumn 2018 when Peter ttl’s son Philipp switched to Red Bull-Tech3-KTM in the Moto2 class and the owner of the German team had a German sponsor but no longer had a German driver. Biaggi, on the other hand, wanted to bring his junior team from the CEV Repsol Championships to the World Championships, but was not given the starting place as a new applicant.
In Essen, Peter Ttl was assured by the selection committee in June that he was a contractual partner of IRTA and would receive both positions. Meanwhile, the Bavarian had contacted the Liqui-Moly-Intact team from Memmingen to clarify whether sponsors there were interested in a joint venture with their Moto3 team. The interest was there.
But at the Silverstone GP on 6 August, Peter Attel reported a reconciliation with Biaggi, who for three years considered himself a true team owner as he signed rider contracts and paid riders, the Husqvarna motorcycle bill. Settled, paid mechanics and owned transport vehicles as well as pit decoration and so on. In addition, he provided the main sponsor with Sterilgarda for four years.
reconciliation, then new noise
Everything was different again at the Austrian GP on 20 August. tl reported a final break with the six-time world champion from Italy. The divorce war assumed serious proportions. Biaggi threatened to shut down the team the day after the Austrian GP and abandoned the rest of the race.
Two weeks later in Misano, the selection team learned that Biaggi would be accepted 100 percent as owner of the new team and that Atl would have to leave the team. As Dani Ape took over from Jaroslav Hanus, Terrell Thien later took over from Ape and Ethel von Thien.
Pierer Mobility AG behaves in a wait-and-see manner. “We’ll wait and see who gets the team and then negotiate,” said Pierre Mobility Road Racing vice president Jens Hanbach during the summer break. In Misano he was still conversing with Biyagi.
But now one thing is certain: Peter Ttl emerged as the clear winner from the months-long and nerve-wracking controversy. They have signed IRTA contracts in each of the last four years – and will continue to be your contract partner.
The Husqvarna team has always celebrated at least one GP win in four years: three in 2019 with Aaron Canet, then one each with Romano Fenati in 2020 and 2021, now two in 2022 with Ayumu Sasaki.
