A ticket from Florida won two million dollars this Saturday in the drawing for Powerball.
For Monday, the Power Ball jackpot will reach $522 million, making it the third largest prize up for grabs this year, according to the official drawing site.
The winner matches 5 numbers and the so-called Powerplay.
On the same day, a ticket from Virginia and another from New Hampshire matched 5 numbers to win a prize of one million dollars each.
The last time the drawing was won was on July 19 when a California ticket won a prize worth 1.08 billion dollars, which is the third largest drawing prize in history.
On that occasion, the ticket was sold at Las Palmitas Mini market, in the city of Los Angeles.
Also on Saturday, a Tennessee ticket matched all six numbers in the Lotto America drawing to win a grand prize worth $9.71 million. This prize has a cash value of $4.69 million.
The small chance of hitting the Powerball jackpot, which is one in 292.2 million, is designed to accumulate large sums that attract many players.
Powerball costs two dollars a ticket and is played in 45 states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
There are only eight states, Florida among them, that do not charge state taxes on lottery winnings, which means they offer the highest payouts. In addition to the Sunshine State, California, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming appear on that list.
To participate in the draw – which is held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday – it is necessary to choose five numbers between 1 and 59, plus a sixth number between 1 and 35, called Powerball.
