The Flying Doctors and Coachella Valley Medical volunteers hosted a free health fair at Desert Mirage High School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m
This event is open to families without health insurance. According to the Legislative Analyst Office, about 92 percent of Californians have health insurance. Since 2013, the share of Californians without comprehensive health insurance coverage has declined from more than 19 percent to about 8 percent.


At the free health clinic in Thermal, participants have the opportunity to receive medical and dental services. They also receive free healthcare and education. Last year there were around 80 volunteers who were able to look after 300 people.

“There are three main hospitals in the Coachella Valley; combined, these hospitals total 867
“Occupied/actually available beds for our residents, a ratio of approximately two beds per 1,000 people,” according to a HARC report from the Desert Healthcare District and Foundation.
“However, these hospital beds are most densely distributed in the western part of the Coachella Valley.
Restricting access for people living in the East Valley who often suffer from transportation challenges. The Coachella Valley also has a shortage of physicians in several specialties, although to a lesser extent.
