“The foot broke into three pieces”: This was the recovery of one of the eleven students run over in Fresno

FRESNO, CA. – Emilio José, 15 years old, was waiting for the bus at the stop near his school when he and other students were suddenly run over.

Among the injured students was Emilio, who was in his second day of classes and had just arrived in the United States from Venezuela.

“I was sitting at the stop and I don’t know what, he came in front of me and wanted to run, and he wasn’t kidding me because the car was very high,” Emilio told Univision 21.

More than a week after the accident, the Hispanic man is recovering as the accident caused multiple fractures.

“The foot broke into three pieces. I had it in three parts. So they operated on the side of his knee and put an iron in him so that he had a bone, he has an iron, that’s what the doctor told me,” Yiliese Silva, Emilio’s mother, told Univision 21.

After the accident, Silva says, Emilio underwent emergency surgery. “He will urgently undergo an operation because he is releasing a lot of blood (…). “I started crying and crying.”

Despite the accident he suffered and the complications that came with it, Emilio wants to return to class. “I want to have a good career. “I will continue to learn with my foot,” said the Hispanic.

Eleven students were injured in this accident in Fresno

On September 6th around 3:30 p.m. In front of Roosevelt High School, near Tulare Avenue and Cedar Avenue, a black van crashed into the bus stop.

According to Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, the van was traveling west on Tulare Avenue when it lost control and crashed into the bus stop where about 20 students were.

Eleven students were transported to various area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

After initial investigations, it turned out that the driver of the vehicle was a 16-year-old boy. According to the report, he was traveling too fast at the time of impact.

After the collision with the bus stop, the young man stopped, ran away with his 14-year-old sister and later escaped with the help of his mother, 36-year-old Yesenia Rentería.

Authorities followed the vehicle and arrested the minor. However, when they checked the cameras on site, Yesenia was also arrested. Hours later the woman was released on bail.
