The future of Andalusian medicine completes its training in Granada

The University Hospitals of Granada have held separate events this Thursday to pay tribute to the 170 Internal Resident Specialists (EIRs) who have completed their training phase. These professionals carry out care tasks in these hospitals while they complete their training under the supervision of their tutors.

Residents are subjected to continuous assessment during the period they have been in the hospital centres, where they are rotated through various services. In addition, they have passed the annual assessment and final assessment at the end of their training cycle. The supervision of this process rests in the hands of those responsible for the teaching units, whose tasks include ensuring compliance with the training programmes.

The Regional Representative for Health and Consumption, Indalecio Sánchez-Montesino García, was only able to attend the meeting held at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, which was held in its assembly hall. He was accompanied by the Managing Director, Manuel Enrique Reyes Nadal, and the Medical and Nursing Directors, Susana Moya Roldan and Irene Bolivar Herrera, respectively.

In her speech, Sánchez-Montesinos thanked the new professionals for “their persistence and commitment over the years they spent in training” and congratulated them for choosing studies whose “sole purpose is to improve the quality of life and the well-being of the citizenry”. .

At the end of the day, in which three residents shared their experiences with the audience over the years, a recognition certificate was given to the 74 resident internists who have completed their training in different areas of this hospital. Specifically, 74 specialists have completed their training period: 41 physicians, 17 specialist doctors in family and community medicine, 10 nurses, three pharmacists, one psychologist, one physicist and one chemist.

For its part, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital has fired this Thursday 96 resident internists who have completed their training activity in this center. Specifically, 61 physicians, 22 family and community medicine specialists, one family nurse, 5 nurses, 4 pharmacists, one psychologist, one physicist and one biologist have completed this training period.

The farewell ceremony was presided over by Managing Director María Ángeles García Rescalvo, who thanked the professionalism and dedication of the resident internal specialists, who were awarded an accredited diploma at the end of the Act. He was accompanied by the medical director, Manuel Linán, the nursing director, Mercedes Villegas, and the heads of the primary and hospital care teaching units, Isabel Valenzuela and José Hornos, respectively.

In addition, three awards are given to the best residents, selected in a participatory manner by fellow classmates and tutors. The winners have been Angel Martínez-Sahuquillo, Antonio Bustos and Celia García.

A total of 1,283 residents are completing their training in Andalusia this year, of which 188 are in Granada.
