The Ministry of Education will strengthen controls on school cafeteria services after the appearance of worms in the menus served on September 22. In addition, it has requested sampling, analysis and reporting from an independent control company quality, as reported by the Executive in a press release.
Education contacted the centers with dining room service on the 22nd “to collect and compare the information received from Serunion”, the company provided this service. Through the contract that the Ministry has with this independent quality control company, inspections will be carried out to control the preparation of food on site, the central kitchens, the arrival of food at the center and on transportation routes.
In addition to intensifying the number of controls, it will bring all the reports received to the attention of the Food Safety and Environmental Health Service, a service where it conducts nutritional analyzes and audits of menus.
The company Serunion, the winner of the school cafeteria service in the public schools of La Rioja, sent a report to the Ministry of Education and Work in which it confirmed that on September 22, the isolated presence of worms was found in eight educational centers. in the first dish of the menu, four of them through the food service brought from the central kitchen of Logroño and the other four, with the kitchen, during the preparation of the first duck.
The company assured in its report that the presence of this biological contaminant “without health risk is very specific to these centers and to specific trays” and emphasized that “when the anomaly was detected, the those responsible for the service immediately. all the dishes that were served were taken away.
The company explained that “the evidence collected so far shows that the high temperature and humidity in recent weeks may have accidentally changed the indisputable quality of the product used in the service.”
