The junior coach gave his assessment after the equalizer at the Metropolitan Stadium.
Junior failed to get past the draw against Atlético Nacional in Barranquilla. Arturo Reyes’ team began to win and had good results in the first minutes, but as the minutes passed, the rival became stronger and maintained the result.
After the end of the game, the coach of “Tiburón” gave his assessment of the game and assured that some adjustments would have to be made in the approach to the next games.
“We put in a lot of effort in the first half and often we failed to move the structure from one side to the other and they found free men to make important transitions. “Things need to be adjusted, but I think the team made a generous effort,” he said at the start of the game.
He then presented the medical report of those injured in that game: “What happened to Enamorado was a muscle injury. You have to wait for medical examinations. “What happened to Cariaco was a wound.”
For his part, Reyes made it clear that adjustments must be made in defense to avoid unnecessary risks: “We saw several inconveniences in transitions. Risks are taken and these risks must be measured. We make bad decisions by going backwards. But we always had the desire to find the game.”
In addition, he assured that he was not physically fit for the game due to the tight schedule: “We should not have played on Thursday and had one more rest day, as if Nacional had done that.”
Finally, Reyes also mentioned that he will make rotations to better reach the key games: Junior needs the strength of the squad. There are players who need to lower their load. The group was not happy. They wanted to win. The team needs the players who are currently not getting that many minutes. “It’s a complex and long tournament.”
