The heat wave continues for another day

We’re looking at two storm systems over the next few days: one will graze southeast mass, the other will be more significant as it rides up the east coast.

Today is fortunately quiet and calm. The wind has stopped since yesterday and the temperature is mild since the beginning of the day. Heights reach the 30s to 40s today – another day of thaw and more snow melting north or in parking lots.

Temperatures cool slightly on Friday as our wind turns from the north, high in the 30s but dropping as an ocean storm moves to the southeast of us. This storm will wreck our surf, increase some wind gusts and bring a couple inches of snow to Cape Cod and parts of the islands. Gusts of north wind are possible from Friday night through Saturday morning. Winds of about 40+ mph are possible over the coast or cape as the storm system pulls more toward the ocean.

Cool breezes blow through on Saturday as morning lows approach zero, and will be in the high teens. With the return of the 20s on Sunday, it is again a cold day. Our next hurricane system will approach us in New England from Sunday night through Monday as the jet stream helps propel this storm our way.

Forecast models agree that the low pressure center will track along the East Coast and then into central New England on Monday afternoon. This means we are more likely to see several inches of snow mixing or rain south, in the mountains. Winds will be strong and strong from southeast. 40+ mph on the south coast looks like an option. It will depend on the total snowfall as well as the track of the storm. All options are still on the table, even with a nor’easter storm or near miss.

stay tuned! We have the first alert for Monday because we believe this storm will affect us. After that storm, small waves of ice pass with perhaps another Arctic cooling at the end of the 10-day forecast.
