Apple recently presented the new shipment of iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. And the truth is that many rumors that we have heard for weeks, and even months, have been confirmed. Among all the good things included in these new generation devices, there are also some poisonous candies facing users. Some candies that, at first seem very sweet, but when we read the fine print, we realize that all that glitters is gold to us.
The USB type C connector has been, if not the most anticipated innovation, one of the most necessary changes requested by these phones. Having a standardized physical connection will bring us many benefits. But this, in turn, is the same USB type C connection that is a threaded dart. And it’s already on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. And because? We told you in this post.
Lightning in disguise
The USB Type C connector potentially has a higher data transfer speed than the Lightning connector. As a connection used for everything, and with the same type of cable, we can have a much higher rate of data transfer than those we have with Apple’s proprietary connectors, which are now transferred to the background, which only on previous iPhone models.
Lightning has USB 2.0 compliant data transfer speeds. This means a big gap between what the internal parts of these phones are, and how they are cut in this aspect, to be the phones presented in the middle of 2023.
If we read the details of these devices, we will quickly realize that the USB type C connectors iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have the same speed that we have with Lightning connectors. And they only did the fast speed in the Pro and Pro Max models, and when we bought the extra cables. So, even if it is true that we finally have USB type C in these iPhones, we will not benefit from the fast speed. Not even when buying official cables.
In the presentation it was not explained at any time that these two models support fast speeds, but rather that they have more compatibility with accessories. Today, we are talking about phones that are in the range of 900 euros in price as a base. And whose maximum speed only reaches 480 Mbit/s. Considering that Thunderbolt 4 reaches 40Gbps and USB 3.0, 4.8Gbps, Apple gave us a USB type C connector, but disguised as Lightning, because the speeds are the same.
So if you want to bet on a new generation iPhone, looking for faster speed, we are sorry to tell you that you will not find it in the iPhone 15 or the iPhone 15 Plus. So if you want to improve the quality, your options should be the iPhone 15 pro, or the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
