The Ministry of Health and the Health Inspectorate were also targets of the cyber attack; They evaluate whether there has been an information hijacking

Public institutions of the state have been the target of cyberattacks again since Tuesday, when operational disruptions were reported on the websites of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) as well as the Superintendency of Health, a situation that affected not only these institutions, but also to the Justice.

Given the situation that alarmed the government, an emergency meeting was held from the Unified Command Post (PMU) with delegates, including representatives from the Ministry of Health and the National Health Superintendency (SNS), who assessed the impact on the units’ condition.

The Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, referred to the attack on his department and the Superintendence, as well as the other institutions that had deficiencies in their programs, confirming that 34 public institutions were attacked; while the technicians assess whether they have hijacked information.

“34 institutions were cybernetically attacked, two of ours, namely the Ministry of Health and the National Health Inspectorate, which also suffered the consequences; An emergency meeting was held with all the people responsible for this issue, especially the Public Prosecutor’s Office, to carry out the relevant investigations,” he said.

Jaramillo noted that system experts are assessing the extent of the impact on the portals and servers in each state agency with appropriate analysis to determine the impact and scale of this cyberattack.

Furthermore, in an audio shared with SEMANA, Presidency Digital Transformation Adviser Saúl Kattan stated that information on health facilities and the judiciary were compromised.

“It is one of the most serious attacks we have had in the country in terms of digital security (…). A lot of health information was compromised, a lot of judicial information was compromised,” he said.

The failures in Supersalud

As reported by SuperSalud in its review of the company and the various applications available on its site.

Likewise, he pointed out that these inconveniences also affect the platforms where users can submit complaints and claims and carry out other procedures such as audits or monitoring of inventories of companies to which special measures apply.

“The National Health Superintendence warns of widespread failure of its technological services to those monitored, users and stakeholders. “We will continue to report on the progress made regarding the reported bug,” the company stated in its X profile.

Those affected include the Ministry of Health and the Regulatory Authority for Industry and Commerce

The same problem was presented on the website of the Ministry of Health, which confirmed that the outages were due to a cybersecurity problem affecting the company contracted to provide this type of service.

The other entity involved in this cyber error, the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce, also confirmed the errors on its website and therefore had to take special measures in some of its functions.

The judiciary, another victim of the attack

Due to the cybernetically registered attacks this Wednesday, from September 14 to 20, 2023, with the exception of guardianship actions, habeas corpus and the surety control function, the Presidency of the National Judicial Council ordered the suspension of judicial prison sentences in the national territory.

The attack by cybercriminals has denied citizens access to the Judiciary website and other technical services, including the microsites of the Judicial Offices, the National Commission for Judicial Discipline, the Online Demand page and the Guardianship and Habeas Corpus Online.
