The Most Popular New Year’s Resolutions in Massachusetts for 2022

New Year’s Eve is just a few days away and we all have a lot of hope that 2022 will be better than 2021. And 2020 for that matter.

To me, it looks like we’re living in a super long year since 2020. Sure, things have improved in the second year of the pandemic, but as the Omicron edition rears its ugly head in late 2021, we’ve got major 2020 vibes happening.

While I would prefer to make a New Year’s wish for 2022 rather than a New Year’s resolution, this is a good time to reflect on what we can do better in the coming year.

According to Zippia, an analytics company that provides career advice, Massachusetts residents top New Year’s resolutions, I was somewhat surprised. It’s not exactly your specific resolution. Most other states chose to be specific, lose weight, sleep better, quit smoking, quit alcohol, but Massachusetts’ top resolution was actually to take more vacations. love it!

Most Americans don’t even use up all their allotted vacation time (I’m not one of them) but they really should. Numerous studies show that vacations make employees (aka people) happier, healthier, and better at their jobs. So this is a New Year’s resolution I can totally connect with.

Using Google Trends, Zippia determined each state’s most popular New Year’s resolution.

We examined search queries related to common New Year’s resolutions (such as “weight training,” and “weight loss”), from there, we determined each state’s most “uniquely searched resolution” from the list, whose Meaning that each state discovered which resolution is disproportionately higher than the other US states on the list of resolutions.

There are only two other states that want to prioritize their time and travel in the new year and that would be our neighbors to the north in New Hampshire and Wisconsin. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that all three of those states have had some pretty severe winters and we’re just looking for a little extra sunshine.

See: 50 famous memes and what they mean

With innumerable memes scattered all over the internet, it is hard to track down. Just when you’ve figured out what a funny meme means, it’s already old news and replaced by something more equally cryptic. Online forums like Tumblr, Twitter, 4chan, and Reddit are responsible for the majority of meme infections, and with frequent posting and sharing, it’s easier than ever to find the source of the original meme. Stacker scoured Internet resources, pop culture publications, and databases such as Know Your Memes to discover 50 different memes and what they mean. While the almost self-replicating nature of these obscure symbols can be tiresome, memes in their essence can also bring people closer together—as long as they have Internet access.
