The motoring giants of the world are joining forces in a landmark agreement

Ford has struck a rare deal with Tesla to give electric vehicle customers access to its supercharger network, becoming the first major automaker to do so.

Some Ford vehicles will be able to recharge at 12,000 superchargers across North America starting next year using the adapter, and starting in 2025, Tesla’s next-generation vehicles will have the capability built-in.

By the beginning of 2024, all Ford electric vehicles in the United States will be able to be charged through Superchargers that Tesla distributes throughout the country. In 2025, the company’s next cars to be sold in North America will include the North American Charging Standard (NACS). The connector is currently only used in the S, Model III, Model X and Model Y

This was announced by Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, and Elon Musk, who is the founder and CEO of Tesla, in a recent space on Twitter as a key part of the company to make superchargers the industry standard.

In parallel, Ford has confirmed that its next EV platform, due to arrive in 2025, will be compatible with Tesla’s North-American flagship from the port. This eliminates the need to use an adapter to connect the vehicle to the supercharger. The company will be led by Jim Farley, and will continue to expand the network called “BlueOval”, adding more than 1,800 new bowls in early 2024.

Third-party vehicles, such as the Ford, through Superchargers is something that Tesla has been allowing for months in Europe. Reason: all plug in cars sold in CCS territory have a European standard adapter. Users then only need to register in the Tesla app, associate a credit card, connect the charger to their car and enter a pre-loaded station code.
