Units from the Colombian Navy, the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force conducted naval exercises in the Caribbean Sea to increase interoperability between the countries and promote good relations for the benefit of maritime security and hemispheric security.

Already in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Colombian-built ocean patrol ship ARC “Victoria” and the ARC 251 helicopter of the Colombian Navy, together with the littoral combat ship USS “Detroit” of the US Navy, joined the Japanese squadron to conduct various naval exercises in which the capabilities of participating units and their crews are tested in order to increase their interoperability and strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation in the pursuit of peace, security, freedom of navigation, and the defense and protection of common maritime interests.
With communication exercises, advanced tactical maneuvers and naval operations, the three countries’ sailors were able to train, communicate and cooperate in the development of military activities through the standardization of procedures established by NATO that allow a high level of interoperability between sea and air units , to help build together timely, relevant and appropriate responses to major global security and defense challenges.
Given the technological and operational challenges faced by various countries, conducting these exercises represents a unique opportunity to be fully trained and updated in real-world scenarios and in each of the procedures, as well as to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation and the exchange of skills.
