The electric car market is booming. There are many new models, many coming from China at competitive prices, and some of the ones that were already there have had price drops, more or less significant depending on the case. The last to join this ditch was the Volkswagen ID.3, which will soon release a new version that will lower the entry price to 4,000 European coins.
Considering the brutal rise in prices in the last two years, perhaps we should talk about “price wars” because, quite simply, that’s what happens as we return to a kind of normality. Even the current rates for new cars are still much higher in almost all cases compared to those of 2020 or 2021. In the case of the ID.3, when it went on the Spanish market, it could be purchased from 36,145 coins. . Now the cheapest version costs 45,010 European coins (with the same autonomy).
Now let’s not summarize all the complications that the automotive industry in general and the Volkswagen Group in particular have gone through, but since its launch in 2020, the id.3 has changed constantly. There was talk about the ID.3 for 30,000 European coins, but the versions with a small battery (45 kWh) disappeared from the range in 2021 in order to prioritize the more expensive versions, which would leave a bigger profit margin.
Now Volkswagen has announced the addition of a new version: the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro with a 58 kWh battery and a 150 kW (204 hp) engine, which will cost 39,995 coins in the German market. They are 4,000 coins less than the cheapest version so far (ID.3 Pro Performance Life), which costs 43,995 euros, and leaves the base price below the psychological barrier of 40,000 euros.
This version will have access to the extension in its standard equipment, a new 12-inch central touch screen, a USB-C port in the center console, a multifunction steering wheel covered in synthetic leather and a new generation software that accompanies the new Volkswagen ID. .3. An update that also includes better interior finishes and minor cosmetic changes to the exterior. In the German market, sales of this new version will begin at the end of March.
It is expected that this new, more advanced version of the ID.3 will also reach the Spanish market, although the specifications and prices are currently unknown. In Spain, the ID.3 circuit is designed a little differently than the German market. The version equivalent to the German ID.3 Pro Performance Life (the basic version that has existed until now) is called ID.3 Entry in Spain; both with the same equipment, engine, battery and autonomy (they have 426 kilometers in the WLTP cycle). Standard equipment includes 18-inch East Coast wheels, LED headlights, Park Cruise Control, ACC adaptive cruise control, and the Find Pro navigation system, among other things.
Although it is logical to think of a smaller device, at the moment it is unknown how exactly this new version differs from the cheapest version available. As for the price, it seems likely that in Spain it will remain below forty thousand coins, a circumstance that will probably be helped by the help of Plan III.
