The pirate Curiosity captures the sun’s rays on Mars for the first time

Hey NASA’s Curiosity rover on Mars captured on February 2, 2023 how the sun’s rays illuminated a bank of clouds as the “king sun” set on the horizon. This was the first time that these solar flowers, including twilight rays, had been seen so clearly on Mars.

El Curiosity captured in the most recent cloud surveys twilight wandering clouds, based on his observations of 2021 nocturnal, or nocturnal, clouds. Since most Martian clouds sit no more than 60 kilometers above the ground and are made of water ice, the clouds in the closest images appear to be at higher altitudes, where it is coldest. This suggests that these clouds are made of carbon dioxide ice, or dry ice.

As on earth, the clouds provide knowledge when complex but crucial data for understanding climate. By observing when and where clouds form, scientists can learn more about the composition and temperatures of the Martian atmosphere than about the winds that blow through it.

The 2011 cloud survey included more images captured by navigation cameras black and white images of Curiosity, which provided a detailed view of the moving cloud structure. But the latest project, which began in January and will end in mid-March, relies more on the pirate’s Mastcam color camera, which helps scientists see how particle clouds grow over time.

In addition to an image of the sun’s rays, Curiosity captured plume-shaped clouds on January 27. When illuminated by the light of the sun, certain types of clouds can be seen to create rainbows, like a spectacle it is called iridescence.

“When we see iridescence, it means that the amount of particles in the cloud is the same as that of its neighbors in each part of the cloud,” he explains in what is said. Marcus Lemmonatmospheric scientist at the Boulder Institute of Space Science, Colorado. “By the appearance of the transition of color, the size of the particles through the cloud is changed.” That tells us how the cloud evolves and how its particle size changes over time.”
