Bremen – SV Werder Bremen won a point in the away game at Bayer Leverkusen and drew 1-1 (0-0). The voices of the game with coach Ole Werner, goal scorer Milos Veljkovic and Co.!
Ole Werner (SV Werder Bremen coach): “Most of the time you are not 100 percent satisfied with a draw. Nevertheless, the quality of the opponent and the course of the game have to be taken into account when evaluating the game. In the first half, although we didn’t make many things as clear in possession as in the second half, we twice had the opportunity to play a classic away game with a little more effectiveness. Where you might be a little deeper than you intend and still get your chances. In the second half, the equalizer was a long time coming from the feeling. We have a lot of situations in or around the penalty area where we keep getting hold of the ball, but then don’t put it on goal very clearly. That’s why I’m totally satisfied with the performance and the point is okay for us away. Not only because of the way the game went and the quality of the opponent, but also because we came from the unsatisfactory Augsburg game. But it’s not something you’re banging your head about in the evenings now.”
Werder Bremen takes a point in the away game against Bayer Leverkusen – the votes on the game
Marco Friedl (Captain of SV Werder Bremen): “It was an open game. I believe that the bottom line is satisfactory and deserved. The bottom line is that one team could have won, but who exactly cannot be said after the course of the game. In this respect we can live with the point. I’ve had one or two games against Leverkusen in which things didn’t go so well for me. You saw today that you can’t give your opponent much space and simply have to be disgusting. We tried to hurt them and take away their strength. Once they get going, it’s extremely difficult to defend. We all did extremely well over the 90 minutes.”
Milos Veljkovic (Werder goalscorer) on the goal and the jubilation that followed: “It was just emotions because it was such a close game and I was able to help the team. I was just in the right place at the right time and switched quickly and stayed there and didn’t run back.”
Earned a point win or was there even more in it?
“Absolutely. I think the game could have gone either way. We too could have taken a 1-0 lead. Then they score a wonderful goal with a majority, but we keep at it. We’ve proven that all season, creating a lot of chances. And also score the goals.”
Werder Bremen wins a point against Bayer Leverkusen: “The plan worked very well”
Marvin Ducksch (Werder striker): “It was a very tiring game. We’ve set ourselves a lot and we’ve brought a lot of that to the pitch. Of course we knew how fast they were coming at us and we felt that a few times in the first half, but it was a huge compliment how we defended things. We created one or the other possibility, that was also the plan and it worked out very well.”
Ilia Gruev (Werder professional): “In the end, the point is deserved. We were behind, then make it 1-1. It was a good Bundesliga game with chances for both sides. We are happy to take the point with us. In Leverkusen, with a Champions League participant, that’s very good for a promoted team. The result is absolutely fine.”
Romano Schmid (Werder professional): “Well, first we play against Leverkusen. Let’s not forget, a few days ago they won against Atletico Madrid, against one of the best teams in the world. Today was really brutal. Nevertheless: I think they had their chances, especially in the first half, but if we used our counter chances better, maybe played the last pass better, then we could have done better. All in all, the draw is right and good for us.”
Werder Bremen draw against Bayer Leverkusen – Kerem Demirbay: “This is how they ruin our game”
Kerem Demirbay (Leverkusen goalscorer): “Today we again failed to convert chances. We’ve been chasing that all season. Today we played a good game. We knew that the opponent played a lot of long balls, had good headers, and then went for the second ball and took it down in a controlled manner. This is extremely difficult for us at the moment. Werder were much deeper in the second half and then worked with the long balls, which they play really well, which mostly go to the shotgun, which lengthens them well. And that’s how they break our game. It’s not easy to create chances against such a deep opponent. We still had enough, you have to be honest. And we just have to do that better.”
Gerardo Seoane (Leverkusen-Trainer): “When we look at the table and the number of points, we are of course very dissatisfied and we certainly have to be concerned. We imagined it very differently. There are always two analyses, one is the performance and the other is the points – and of course we’re not satisfied with that.”
