The Pope told the youth: “It is not enough to live on income. You have to return to earn what you got”

The final stop of Francis’ penultimate pilgrimage was Iqaluit, the capital of the Nunavut region of Canada, home to the majority of the Inuit population.

A representative of the community welcomed the Pope amidst traditional dance and music.

The Pope once again apologized for the injustice and mistreatment meted out to many Catholics. Using the image of the traditional Inuit oil lamp kullik, he encouraged the community to remain a light in the world.

Even today it remains a beautiful symbol of life, of a luminous life that does not bow down to the darkness of the night. You are such, a perennial testimony to life that never goes out, a light that shines and no one can suffocate.

The Pope then called on young people to live a life worthy of the inheritance they received from their parents in order to build a better future.

It is not enough to live on income, it is necessary to earn again what you have got. So don’t be afraid to listen to the advice of elders again and again, adopt your own history to write new pages, be passionate, stand against facts and people, take risks.

The Pope gave three advices to the youth. First, don’t be afraid to “fly high” in your life. Secondly, that they do not allow themselves to be carried away by difficulties, that the darkness does not turn off their light. And finally, Francis recommended that young people work as a team to avoid fighting alone in life.

It is necessary to allow youth to form groups, move forward. They cannot spend their days in solitude, holding a telephone hostage. The great glaciers in these countries make me think about the national sport of Canada, ice hockey. How is it possible for Canada to win all the Olympic medals? How did Sarah Nurse or Mary-Philippe Paulin get all those goals? Hockey combines discipline and creativity, strategy and physicality well; But what makes a difference is always the team spirit.

Finally, the Pope prayed with the attendees and headed to the airport to end the nearly week-long trip to Canada.
