Sumar’s spokesperson in Congress, Marta Lois, called on the PP to withdraw the candidacy for the investiture of its leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, because he confirmed that it is destined to fail. He assured that it was a “waste of time” and that progress must be made to have a progressive Government “as soon as possible.” The general secretary of the Popular Group of Congress, Carlos Rojas, called this request “unbelievable” because, in his opinion, the “questioning” of the investiture represents “a failure in the way of doing politics .”
This happened during a meeting held by the Congress, which lasted about 40 minutes. This was done in a friendly manner within the framework of the round of parliamentary contacts initiated by the PP to gain support for Feijóo’s candidacy for the leadership of the Government, which will be debated in Congress on September 26 and 27.
Lois framed the meeting within “democratic normality”, but stressed that all Spaniards knew that Feijóo’s investment attempt would fail. Therefore, Lois explained that for more than 20 days the PP leader “wasted time” because he knew that he would not get enough support to become president and he asked to withdraw his candidacy. On the other hand, Rojas rejected Sumar’s request, stressing that Feijóo won the general election and had 172 votes, just four short of the 176 where the absolute majority was set, a number that the PSOE could not reach. and Summary.
Trans Law and the case of Puigdemont
On the other hand, Lois took advantage of their meeting so that Rojas sued the appeals of the PP in the Constitutional Court against the Trans Law and the labor reform. He argues that if the Popular Group is truly committed to dialogue, the “major social agreements” brought forth by that law must be respected. However, Sumar’s spokesperson got nothing but silence on this request.
Although the interview was conducted “full of respect and dialogue”, Rojas also took advantage of the meeting to complain that the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, refused to meet with Feijóo, but met with the former Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont. The Popular Party was negative about the PSOE “talking about amnesty and wanting to break the pillars of the Constitution at any cost to stay in power.”
Finally, Rojas attended the meeting with a copy of the treaties proposed by Feijóo for Spain, based on the “equality of all Spaniards”, but he acknowledged that Lois was already aware of the document. As he said, the text proposes all the parties under the spirit of the ‘Moncloa Pacts’, in addition to reminding Congress that their formation has a mandate from the king and that “clearly won the election.”
