MG’s new compact electric car MG4 Electric is priced from 31,990 Euros in Germany. The British brand, now in Chinese hands, revealed this at an online event.
Parent company SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) serves as the technical base for the 4287 millimeter long MG4 Electric. The entry-level model is powered by a 125 kW motor (170 hp) on the rear axle. The other two variants available in this country have a 150 kW motor (204 hp). It must always go from 0 to 100 in less than eight seconds, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
While the basic model derives its energy from a drive battery with a storage capacity of 51 kWh, the more expensive versions use a battery pack with 64 kWh. The smaller battery provides a range of 350 kms as per WLTP standard, the larger battery allows up to 450 kms. The 51 kWh battery pack contains a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and 104 individual cells in six assemblies. The larger battery uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemical, along with 104 cells in groups of six.
While the basic “standard” version of the MG4 Electric costs 31,990 euros, the manufacturer charges 35,990 euros for the mid-sized “comfort” model and 37,990 euros for the top “luxury” version. If customers get their vehicle this year and can still register it in 2022, they will benefit from an “environmental bonus” totaling 9570 euros. The state transfers 6000 euros of subsidy after approval, the manufacturer already pays 3570 premiums when you buy it. In 2023, the federal share will drop to 4,500 euros.
Consumption varies between 16.6 and 17 kWh/100 km. The major differences in charging capacity are: Standard models can draw a maximum of 6.6 kW of power from a wall box, and up to 117 kW are supported on a fast charging station. Comfort and luxury vehicles draw up to 11 kW from the wall box and up to 135 kW from the fast charging station.
A Europe-wide market launch is planned for the fourth quarter. Then the MG4 Electric should be available in Pearlescent Black, Bright White, Lightspeed Silver, Andean Grey, Flame Red, Brighton Blue and Bubble Orange colours. According to the manufacturer, the first 1000 pre-orders that lead to a compulsive purchase are guaranteed to be delivered in 2022.
Later, MG is looking to introduce a variant with two electric motors and all-wheel drive in addition to the rear-wheel drive vehicles. It will provide power of at least 250 kW (340 hp). It should accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just four seconds. There is also a 77 kWh battery that can cover a range of 500 kms.
