The primary commission postponed the start of the candidate nomination period for June 5

The National Primary Commission shared the format for collecting signatures in support of the candidates through its social networks.

National Primary Commission (CNP) Candidate nomination period for opposition election to be held on October 22 postponed till June 5

The information was disseminated through a statement published on his social networks. In the document, he stressed that the closing date for the application phase remains June 23.

In principle, according to the election schedule, the start of applications was scheduled for May 24.

In the instance of the opposition it is also mentioned that they are still working on the Minimum Government Program to guarantee governance and the declaration of democratic principles. Both documents, he insisted, must be signed by presidential candidates at the time of formalizing their applications.

Compatible with CNE

To date, the National Commission for Primary Education has not defined whether the electoral process will be carried out with the accompaniment of the National Electoral Council (CNE). This is an issue that is still being debated after the electoral force rejected the requests made by the opposition commission on 18 April.

In a document given to the CNE commission on 8 April, the CNP proposed two scenarios for the governing body to provide technical support to the primary, during the establishment of a mixed commission between the two instances.

In the first, the use of polling stations with manual voting was proposed. while the other proposed the use of centers with a combined voting system.

In both cases, two months for setting up 1,500 registration points and updating data in the electoral registry were requested in an audited process. In addition, around 5,000 polling stations were facilitated and security by state security forces was requested.

Opposition dilemma

After the CNE refused to accede to the requests made by the opposition, the CNP began a consultation process on 20 April among factors supporting this election, choosing an opposition standard-bearer to face Chavismo in 2024. Will go

Since that date there have been many debates through social networks between the candidates, who are still divided between accepting or not accepting the CNE’s intervention in the primary.

Among those endorsing the CNE’s association are Béjamin Rousseau, Carlos Prosperi, Henrique Capriles and Manuel Rosales, who have not yet formalized their candidacy. Whereas, María Corina Machado, Andrés Velasquez, César Pérez Vivas and Delsa Solorzano have expressed their disapproval of the governing body’s interference in the process.

For their part, Roberto Henriquez and Freddy Superlano have been prudent in the decisions made by the CNP, as long as the security of the voter’s identity is guaranteed.

CNP President Jesús María Casal assured on 20 April that voter identities would not be put at risk despite the decision.

“In any case, the identity of the voter will always be guaranteed. This principle is non-degradable, it is non-negotiable,” he insisted.
