“Annabel” Was Too Modern for Her

Royals are required to report the name of their choice to the Queen as per tradition. Otherwise, the name of the daughter of Prince Andrew would have been completely different.

Princess Beatrice (34) was born in London on 8 August 1988 as the first daughter of Prince Andrew (62) and Sarah Ferguson (62) – the fifth granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II (96). A full two weeks after her birth, however, it was only announced what the princess’s name was. Reason: Your grandmother didn’t like the name.

As “The Sun” now reveals, Her Majesty’s fingers were in the christening of the princess. Ferguson really wanted to name his daughter “Annabel.” He was too “modern” for the queen. So he forced a name change.
