The Queen enthralls the crowd by making an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the end of Platinum Jubilee

The Queen appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to mark the climax of four days of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Her Majesty thrilled thousands of well-wishers outside the royal residence in central London as she greeted cheering crowds and commemorates the extended bank holiday weekend.

96 years old King Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis stood by at the finale of the hour-long street pageant.

The head of state watched comfortably on the balcony as she leaned on her cane, now a regular aid after her mobility issues.

The national anthem was played as celebrities including Sir David Jason, Harry Redknapp, Sir Cliff Richard, Sandy Shaw and Felicity Kendall joined in a collective rendition of God Save the Queen.

Senior members of the royal family sat in the royal compartment to watch the spectacle, but the Queen was only seen later in the day.
