Kidney and Heart Disease Research Group Receives Researcher Who Developed Part of Her Doctoral Thesis

Both research teams jointly author research articles for future scientific publications

The research unit of the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, a center affiliated with the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has welcomed the temporary stay of a pre-doctoral student from the University of Oviedo.

The researcher, who works at the Health Research Institute of the Principality of Asturias (ISPA), in the group of bone metabolism, vascular and chronic inflammatory diseases, doctors Jorge. Research in the Research Group on Kidney and Cardiovascular Disease (INVERCAV).

This action allows both groups to open up new job opportunities that will help program and consolidate future cooperative research projects to benefit patients with diabetes and kidney disease. Predoctoral researcher Beatriz Martin Caro explains that she chose Hospital La Candelaria because of the “extensive experience in the field of chronic kidney disease associated with diabetes” of Dr. Juan Francisco Navarro González and Dr. Carmen Mora. In addition, he had the advice of Javier Donate Correa, the researcher in charge of the Physiopathology of the Mineral Metabolism Group.

As Martin explains, “Diabetes is a major global health problem, not only because of its high and growing prevalence, which has tripled in the past 20 years, but also because of the number of premature deaths it causes. ”
