We’ve seen Logan Roy (Brian Cox), his sons, and his crew cross the lines of morality, ethics, and decency on many occasions, but this week’s HBO Max episode of “Succession” took the cake. Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) help bring what they call “fascism” into the Oval Office with the helpful help of Tom (Matthew Macfadyen). And they have done it purely and only out of personal self-interest.
Roman takes control of the situation with an unwavering coolness to political aspirations, and Kane coaxes him into breaking the deal with Mattson (Alexander Skarsgård) and leading Waystar Royko alone. Shiva (Sarah Snook) tries to stop it, but not for the good of democracy but for herself, because of her prior agreement with Mattson. It was surprising to learn that the only one who seemed to retain some sanity was the one who (almost) never questions anything: Greg (Nicholas Braun).
As we head towards the finale of Season 4’s ‘Succession’, we look forward to a grim conclusion in which the Roy brothers push the country to the brink of authoritarianism. As Kendall puts it in a brief but revealing line, “Maybe the poison is dripping,” referencing her father’s influence on her.
With all this commotion, you might have forgotten that Logan Roy (Brian Cox) passed away a few weeks ago. But in the sequel, the final episode before the series finale on HBO Max, it will be a time when politicians and relevant figures in the media pay their respects to the “controversial” patriarch.
As we can see in the trailer below (remember to activate the automatic subtitles), all the big names associated with Waystar Royko will be present, including the self-styled new President of the United States, Jared Menken (Justin Kirk) and Roman Will. Be in charge of delivering a speech that promises to be quite the declaration of intent to face the consequences of the 4th season of stabbing and family betrayal.
