The president of the self-proclaimed republic of Nagorno Karabakh, Samvel Shajramanián, today ordered the dissolution of the separatist entity on the territory of Azerbaijan. “All state bodies and organizations dependent on them must be dissolved before January 1, 2024, and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) will cease to exist,” said the order reported by Armenian media. .

The document signed by Shakhramanyan said that the residents of Nagorno Karabakh, including those outside its territory, should take into account the conditions presented by Azerbaijan for reintegration and then “decide individually” if will stay in Nagorno Karabakh or return to it. .

The dissolution of the self-proclaimed republic of Nagorno Karabakh, which is not recognized, even by Armenia, is one of the conditions imposed by Azerbaijan to stop the military operation it launched on the 19th against the enclave and ended the following day. with the surrender of the Karabakhis.

Representatives of the Government of Azerbaijan and the Karabakh Armenians have since held two meetings to discuss the reintegration of the territory into Azerbaijan.

The surrender of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic caused the exodus of the Karabakh people to Armenia.

More than half of the enclave’s population, estimated at around 120,000 residents, have left their homes since Sunday and moved to Armenia.

“At 04:00 GMT, 65,036 forced evacuees from Nagorno Karabakh arrived in Armenia,” Nazeli Baghdasarián, spokesperson for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinián, wrote on Facebook today.

According to the Armenian Executive, most of the displaced have homes in Armenia or relatives who host them.

Others were placed in hostels, hotels, reception centers and other buildings in the city of Goris, which is located near the border with Azerbaijan.

The flight of Armenians from Karabakh continues despite the fact that the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Alíev, has promised to respect the rights of the population of the enclave.

In Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian denounced that “ethnic cleansing” of the mountainous territory was taking place.
