The first fallen men appear after the revelation of the Hermosilla case – or Coimas case – since on this day the Director of the Internal Revenue Service (SII), Hernán Frigolett decided to be removed from his position with immediate effect Director of Large Taxpayers, Christian Soto.
This is due to the preliminary background as part of the company’s internal investigation, after the revelation of the audio recording with lawyers Luis Hermosilla, Leonarda Villalobos and businessman Daniel Sauer in which they spoke of bribes to officials of the SII and the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF) and the bribery investigation ordered by the State Department led to the conclusion that Soto had lost confidence in his management.
According to SII, the administrative summary is still in full development, so the adoption of additional measures against other officials is not ruled out. This summary, like the public prosecutor’s investigation, is confidential.
“As has been the case since the beginning of this case, this service will continue to ensure the fullest cooperation with the Ministry of State, with the aim of contributing to the success of the investigations it carries out and ensuring that those responsible for any acts constituting a criminal offense are secured will be duly punished,” the SII added.
Soto took up his position in October 2022. He previously joined the service as an inspector in 1998 and has held leadership roles throughout his career as head of the inspection department of La Serena, regional director of Puerto Montt and regional director of Temuco. From 2015 to 2022, he was Regional Director of the Eastern Metropolitan Directorate.
